An overnight in Budapest provided ample opportunity to explore city's buzzing nightlife scene with an optional guided excursion to visit some of the bars.

A single round at Tee Time on the course's nine holes costs $10 per person, and teams can accommodate up to six people. Norwegian Viva's onboard diversions are varied and interesting. From Broadway-caliber shows and live music to dance parties, bingo, trivia, video games, slides and games like "Deal or No Deal," there's a lot that graces the Freestyle Daily, Norwegian Viva's daily schedule of activities. There's also a bar in the casino and one by the pool (Waves Pool Bar). In addition to for-fee treatments (massages, manicures, pedicures), the ship offers a gorgeous and expanded thermal suite that has salt and steam rooms, a sauna, a massive split thalassotherapy pool, an ice room, heated tile loungers and more. Like many of the vessels that came before it, Norwegian Viva includes studio cabins for one â something the line has worked to improve since its first iteration on Norwegian Epic in 2010.
Syd Norman, a fictional character whose face appears on the lounge's logo, draws from the personas of club owners who found success during rock 'n' roll's heyday. Part of the reason "Press Your Luck" and "Icons" weren't fully ready is because the stage and seating layouts couldn't be changed while "Beetlejuice" was in tech. I prefer sweet drinks, so I went with peanut butter whiskey and club soda.
They've had to adapt the show to fit on the Viva Theater's smaller stage, of course, but that has allowed the team the flexibility to tweak things they didn't like about the original version. So, when it debuts â offering two shows on each of two nights during a typical voyage for four total performances â the show promises to be even better than the original. Two of Norwegian Viva's top shows weren't ready when I sailed on the ship's inaugural sailing. Broadway show "Beetlejuice" was in tech rehearsals at the time, and an onboard rendition of the popular game show "Press Your Luck" also hadn't debuted. Looking for a place to hang out with a drink and your thoughts? The Metropolitan Bar on Deck 7, which often hosts live music, hardly ever seemed crowded.

With some of the best of the best in todayâs modern cruising industry, thereâs so much to love. I have never seen so many unsupervised teens and tweens running through public areas, lounging in stairwells, being loud and generally creating a disturbance. Because I've not seen this on any other ship I've sailed, I assume it's due to the programming and lack of a dedicated teen hangout. I know many people like to disconnect during vacation, but for those of us who want (or need) to stream, post, check email or do work, a solid onboard Wi-Fi connection is crucial. Throughout the 45-minute experience, we searched for clues to help us locate him and escape the locked area. Unfortunately, the final piece of equipment glitched â even though we did everything right, according to the crew member overseeing our progress â so we never got to see the conclusion, despite solving all of the puzzles correctly.
Norwegian Viva adds automatic surcharges of $20 to $25 per person, per day to final bills, depending on your cabin category. Passengers can tweak the amount up or down at the guest services desk before the final morning of the sailing, but they will be required to fill out a form. A 20% gratuity is also tacked onto bar, spa and specialty restaurant purchases. The vessel will spend the winter months (roughly mid-November through mid-April) offering seven-night Caribbean voyages from San Juan. The rest of the year, it will be based in Lisbon, from which it will conduct Mediterranean and Greek Isles itineraries that range from nine to 11 nights. It will also sail a handful of voyages from Rome and Athens, Greece.
The same deck houses the sundeck exclusive for guests staying in The Haven, which has its own hot tubs and premium lounge seating. They feature a full-sized bed and access to the Studio Lounge â a space exclusive to those staying in studio cabins. Interior staterooms are located on decks five and 9-16 and include two sub-categories. Regular interiors include two twin beds that can convert to a queen and hold two guests.
However, when I ordered room service breakfast one morning, it arrived five minutes ahead of the earliest delivery time I selected, and the French toast was tasty. Food Republic, across from Palomar on Deck 17, is my favorite of NCL's alternative restaurants. Although Palomar features vegetable-based sides and appetizers, vegetarians and vegans will not find suitable mains on the menu.
While there is an announced delay in getting the show up and running for the shipâs first few cruises, when it launches, this will be one not to miss. Oceanview staterooms take the same aesthetic and give it an upgrade, with lots of floor space and big, circular windows on one wall, next to the bed. In August 2022, the ship floated out from its dry dock at the Fincantieri shipyard in Venice, Italy, around which time it was also announced that the shipâs first sailings would be delayed due to supply chain issues. (The ship was originally scheduled to make its debut in July 2023). For Norwegian fans, this highly anticipated ship (and the class overall) is a canât-miss.
I don't even have children, and I'm scratching my head about the state of Splash Academy, Norwegian Viva's kids club. Most other vessels in the fleet have dedicated spaces for different age groups. On Viva, two spaces on Deck 15 forward accommodate all kids from 6 months to 17 years. Because entertainment is one of the few areas that sets Norwegian Viva apart from Norwegian Prima, I was excited to experience the new shows, especially after NCL told us it was bringing Broadway production "Beetlejuice" on board. Unfortunately, the musical isn't ready yet, so I won't be able to see it on my voyage. (The PR team has told me it's scheduled to begin its run in late August.) It's understandable since new ships often have a few kinks to work out, but it was still disappointing.
Other culinary choices on the cruise ship include "The Latin Quarter" (classic Latin food with a twist), "Just Desserts" (including pies and cakes), "Just Ice Cream". The Gateway offers a variety of brands and items, and The Zone & Eye Style sells designer sunglasses. Tech @ Sea sells speakers, headphones, and other electronic gear. The Photo Gallery is the place to purchase a camera and any photo prints the shipâs photographers take of guests during the cruise.
Norwegian Viva offers a comfortable way to cruise to warm-weather destinations -- one that's definitely worth trying out. -- doing away with the singular buffet concept, the better the experience gets. You just don't have to put yourself through what is usually a stressful, crowded experience -- but nor do you have to devote the kind of time needed for a typical sit-down in the Main Dining Room, either.
The Penrose Atrium on Deck 6 is lighter, brighter and has a more open feeling. It's a much more pleasant â albeit much louder â space than on some of Norwegian's previous vessels. On Norwegian Viva, the line removed Starbucks from the space to make room for more tables and alleviate congestion. (But caffeine fans need not worry; Starbucks also has a stand-alone venue on Deck 7 in the atrium area.) You sit wherever you'd like and order from a touchscreen. My group's food showed up in mere minutes, and it was delicious. I highly recommend the Indian dishes from a counter called Tamara.
